The Master of Public Health (MPH) program and American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) have innovatively created a pathway for ACSOM students to complete their Medical Doctor (MD) program consecutively with our MPH degree. The partnership between Brock University and ACSOM aligns entirely with our internationalization strategy, which highlights the importance of providing recognition to international learning and credentialing systems.

MD-MPH Double Degree Pathway

The MD-MPH pathway is an international partnership providing students not only with enhanced academic opportunities, but a clear pathway to a professional career in health care. Dean of ACSOM, Dr. Ramin Ahmadi, stated,

“The pathway program reflects ACSOM’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary education that equips future physicians with the tools to address complex health-care challenges. By combining clinical training with public health expertise, we are creating leaders prepared to serve their communities with a broader understanding of health systems.”

ACSOM students admitted to the MPH program have the option of completing our general or either specialized programs in Health Information Management or Infection Prevention and Control. Students may apply for transfer to the Brock portion of the MD-MPH pathway at the completion of Year 1 at ACSOM. The minimum requirement for entry into the MPH portion of the pathway is general admissibility to Brock and have passed all Year 1 courses at ACSOM at the time of transfer. Students who are accepted to both institutions will follow the stipulated program structure, including:

• Students will complete year 1 of the MD program at ACSOM,
• Subsequently, students will complete the MPH program online in year 2, and
• Finally, students will return to ACSOM to continue and complete the remaining 3 years of their MD degree.

ACSOM will provide their students (both Canadian and international) pursuing the MD-MPH program with full tuition scholarships for the MPH program. For students already holding a MPH degree at Brock, ACSOM will provide such students a full tuition scholarship to pursue a second master’s degree at Brock in either our accelerated MBA or MEd programs, conditional upon meeting all requirements of either the MPH-MBA or MPH-MEd consecutive degrees pathway programs, respectively. Alternatively, ACSOM students can complete their MD degree, and ACSOM will grant a one-time $10,000 scholarship to all former Brock MPH graduates.
