A message from the Director

I’m really proud to be part of the MPH community. I know you will be too. The MPH program has that ‘field of dreams’ success to it — if you build it, they will come.

We knew we were starting from a position of strength given Brock’s reputation as a leader in public health education at the undergraduate level as well as being known for pushing the boundaries of experiential learning and online programming.

Those were the key building blocks to create our extremely successful master’s degree, fully online, for today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders! Our MPH was designed to complete a rigorous program efficiently that blends the best theory and up-to-date practice. At the same time, the program gives our students the flexibility to remain in their communities and continue with other important life priorities.

And here you are, one of the many high calibre students, from all over the world, who come to our program year after year. You’ll study in the company of recent graduates, from strong academic backgrounds, as well as working professionals from a variety of health sectors who want to advance their credentials and set a new career path. That makes for a powerful combination of experiences, energy and insight.

The MPH faculty is behind your success 100 per cent of the way. You’ll learn from, and collaborate with, accomplished educators and researchers from pure and applied disciplines. Some of our teaching faculty are expert professionals from around the world who share their years of experience at the frontline of public health. Take some time to read about them on our faculty profile page.

You’ll also find stories about our current students and recent MPH graduates. You’ll meet some dynamic people who are motivated, like you, by a deep social responsibility to help others. They share your passion to make the world a healthier place. MPH students develop and strengthen their essential skills, professional and leadership abilities, and team-based training through course work and a mandatory practicum in the public health sector. The program emphasizes the core competencies outlined by the Public Health Agency of Canada. MPH graduates move on confidently to take their place in the public health workforce anywhere in the world.

Our partnerships within the public health industry, particularly the practicum relationships that you develop, help us gain a broad perspective of the 24/7 public health global environment. New and creative curriculum, including courses in emergency preparedness, social marketing and health communications, indigenous health and e-health innovations and trends demonstrate how we remain current in public health practices. Together, Canadian and international MPH students share their broad perspectives of public health based on where they live and their distinct academic and professional experiences. Whether you are a full- or part-time student, you will enrich your background through innovative and creative course work, an experiential learning placement tailored to your specific interests, and the mentorship of accomplished educators and researchers from multidisciplinary fields of study and professional practice.

If you choose Brock’s MPH program, your future looks very bright! We look forward celebrating your success as you confidently prepare to step into a public health career of your choosing. You’ll make a difference in ways you haven’t yet imagined!
