Nursing Admission Criteria

The Department of Nursing offers students the opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BScN) four-year honours program, professional development, and professional upgrading.

 
BScN Honours - Brock University (full-time only)
Applicants may apply for admission to the four-year BScN Honours program that is offered entirely at the Brock University campus in St. Catharines. Following completion of the degree, students will be eligible to write the certification exam to become a Registered Nurse.

  • Current Ontario secondary school applicants are required to present a minimum of six 4U or 4M credits with an average in the mid to high 80s. Prerequisites subjects are: English (ENG4U) (min.70%), Biology (SBI4U) (min.70%), Chemistry (SCH4U) (min.70%).Strongly recommended subject: One 4U math.
  • University degree transfer applicants are required to present a minimum transfer average of no less than 70%. Equivalent prerequisite subjects at the degree level or secondary grade 12 advanced level: English (ENG4U) (min.70%), Biology (SBI4U) (min.70%), Chemistry (SCH4U) (min.70%).Strongly recommended subject: One 4U math.
  • College certificate transfer applicants: one-year Pre-Health University Path Certificate (or equivalent) with a transfer average in the high 80s to low 90s. Equivalent prerequisite subjects at the certificate level** or secondary grade 12 advanced level: English (ENG4U) (min.70%), Biology (SBI4U) (min.70%), Chemistry (SCH4U) (min.70%).Strongly recommended subject: One 4U math.
  • College diploma transfer applicants: two or three year diploma in related health-care fields with an average in the high 80s to low 90s. Equivalent prerequisite subjects at the diploma level** or secondary grade 12 advanced level: English (ENG4U) (min.70%), Biology (SBI4U) (min.70%), Chemistry (SCH4U) (min.70%).Strongly recommended subject: One 4U math.

Enrolment in the BscNursing program is highly limited. Attainment of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Due to the specialized nature of the Brock University BSc Nursing program, second degree applicants, as well as university and college transfer applicants should note that transfer credit is very limited and not guaranteed. Successful applicants should expect to begin year-one studies in order to fulfill the unique requirements (such as practicum placements) of the Brock Nursing program.
 

Bachelor of Science Honours Nursing - Brock University/Loyalist College Collaborative (full-time only)
Applicants may apply for admission to the four-year BScN Honours program offered in collaboration with Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario. The first two years are completed at Loyalist College and the final two years at Brock University. Following completion of the degree, students will be eligible to write the certification exam to become a Registered Nurse.

Professional Development (part-time)
Graduates of a Nursing (RN) diploma or degree program, who are currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, may apply for professional development purposes. Applicants do not intend to pursue a degree or graduate qualifications. Contact the Office of the Registrar, Admissions, 905-688-5550 extension 3435 for additional admissions information.
 

Upgrading (normally part-time)
Applicants who are graduates of a Nursing (RN) degree baccalaureate program but are NOT registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario should choose this option.

An example of an applicant in this category would be an individual that has completed professional education in a country other than Canada, who is required to upgrade prior to membership in the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Applicants who fall into this category must present a copy of the letter from the College of Nurses of Ontario indicating the specific courses that are required for upgrading.
