Sport Management (MA)

The Master of Arts in Sport Management offers a unique educational opportunity in the management of sport. It emphasizes an individualized program of study, including mentored thesis research and focused inquiry in the student’s chosen area of specialization. Required academic work is designed to develop deep conceptual and theoretical knowledge while refining advanced research skills from an academic and practitioner lens. Students gain a strong foundation in rigorous research design and analytical methods, preparing them for further academic study or impactful research-focused careers.

  • Fall (the first intake for this program is planned for September 2026)

Pathway and duration:

  • Thesis – 6 terms (2 years)

Admission requirements

  • Check the university requirements and the program requirements. 
  • Complete the online application and submit the non-refundable application fee. 
  • A four-year Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline (for example, Sport Management, Recreation and Leisure Studies). Students with a Bachelor's degree in such related fields as Communications or Business may also be eligible, although additional coursework may be required 
  • A minimum average of 75% (mid-B), or equivalent, in the last two years of full-time study 
  • Agreement from a faculty member in SPMA to serve as a supervisor 
  • You will need to submit your transcripts as well as the following program-specific materials: 
    • Two academic references  
    • A statement of intent, no more than two pages in length, in which applicants indicate their specific research interests, and experience relevant to the program (e.g., any research-related experience from undergraduate degrees and/or industry research work). 
    • Prospective students are required to make personal contact with potential supervisors as part of the application process. 
    • A Curriculum Vitae (CV) indicating the applicant’s education, employment, teaching and research activities/experience, and any publications/presentations.
