Explore health equity, social determinants of health, and community well-being through community-engaged research, policy and systems analysis, qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, and knowledge mobilization to improve community health issues. Address community health priorities and population health challenges through original research that advances understanding of community health issues and supports positive social change.

Admission requirements

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, in a related field (Health Sciences, Medical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, Public Health, Community Health, Child Health), with a minimum average of 75% in the last two years of study.
  • Students with a Bachelor’s degree in such related fields as Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology, Gerontology, or Kinesiology may also be eligible, although additional course work may be required.
  • Applicants must have undergraduate preparation in research methods in either quantitative or qualitative data analysis. Applicants who do not have this preparation may be admitted to the program as a conditional student.
  • Applicants that are required to provide proof of English language proficiency must meet the standard graduate minimum requirements (IELTS 6.5 overall, with no band below 6.0, or an approved equivalent), as outlined on the Graduate English Language Proficiency webpage.

Application materials

In addition to the online application and payment of the non-refundable application fee, applicants are required to submit:

  • Transcripts from all previous post-secondary study.
  • Two (2) references (academic preferred).
  • Statement of Intent of no more than two pages whereby applicants indicate their career aspirations and plans, specific research interests, and experience relevant to the program.
  • Prospective students are required to make personal contact with potential supervisors and make note of this in the application process.
  • A Curriculum Vitae indicating the applicant’s education, employment, teaching and research activities/experience, and any publications/presentations.
