2025 Annual Juried Exhibition

Attention all  Brock Students, Alumni, Faculty & Staff! 

As we continue to celebrate Brock University’s 60th Anniversary, the Visual Arts Gallery is beginning to plan for our Annual Juried Exhibition. This opportunity is a call to all (yes, all!) Brock students, alumni, faculty, and staff to celebrate and showcase our university’s creative spirit. For this special exhibition, the Visual Arts Gallery is seeking artwork that is vibrant, exciting, and engaging. We hope to illuminate and represent the creative spirit of Brock’s community through a dynamic display of material exploration, experimentation, impact, surprise, analysis, and innovation. 

The 2025 Annual Juried Exhibition will run February 4 – 27, 2025 at the Visual Arts Gallery. A reception will be held on February 6, 2025 from 5-7 pm.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Artwork Format: Accepted mediums include painting, drawing, photography, fibre/textile art, sculpture, 3D printing, mixed media, 2D Digital art, new media, sound, and video art.

A Note about Time-Based Media:
Maximum duration 10 minutes. There is no minimum duration; short-form video art under 1 minute is welcome. Files should be shared as MP4 or MOV formats. Video file size should not exceed 2GB. If your file is larger, provide a streaming link (e.g., Vimeo or YouTube) with the download option enabled.

Resolution:
Minimum of 1920×1080 pixels (Full HD)
Maximum of 3840 x 2160 pixels (UHD) 

Aspect Ratio: Submissions can be in any aspect ratio, though 16:9 is preferred. If your video is in a different aspect ratio, please indicate so in your submission.

If sound/audio is integral to your artwork, please provide clear instructions on specific audio setup/requirements.

Size and Dimensions: 

2D works: All small and large scale works will be considered. Gallery space may be limited due to volume of work; therefore, all submissions must include exact measurements. All wall-mounted works must be install-ready with hardware or cables (or alternate/specific install instructions). 

Sculpture/3D works: Include exact measurement(s), approx. weight, installation requirements (floor, wall, etc.) 

Submissions will be juried.

Artists must consider the practical aspects of transporting and displaying their work, as well as preparedness; all work must be complete (not in-progress) and install-ready.  

Submission Deadline and Timelines
All entries must be submitted electronically by the noted deadline. Late submissions will not be considered. If you are unable to drop off your work on the specified date, please find alternate arrangements/assistance to ensure that you meet both the deadline and drop-off window(s). 

 Artists can submit up to two (2) artworks.  

In an attached MS Word document, please include an image index with full label information: full artist name, artwork title, year, medium, size, and a brief description/artist bio.  

Include 1 – 2 photographs of each submitted work.
Submit image files as high-resolution JPEGs.
Label image files as: FULL NAME, ARTWORK TITLE

Important Dates: 

Submission deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025 

Notification of Acceptance: Those selected will be notified on/by Friday, January 24, 2025.  

Drop-off date: Tuesday, January 28, 2025 between 1:00 – 5:00 pm to Visual Arts Gallery, Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. All works must be wrapped upon delivery to the Visual Arts Gallery. 

Exhibition Dates & Location: February 4 – 27, 2025, Visual Arts Gallery, Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. 

Reception: Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Visual Arts Gallery.
All welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Cash bar.  

Pick-up of Artwork: Friday, February 28 & Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 1-5 pm at the Visual Arts Gallery. Artists must adhere to this deadline, and all work must be picked up during these windows.

Juried Drawing Exhibition

Call for Submissions from Niagara Secondary School Students

Drawn 2025: Juried Drawing Exhibition for Secondary Students in the Niagara Region will showcase the artistic achievements of secondary students and encourage their interest in drawing and the visual arts. Secondary Schools in the Niagara Region are invited to submit up to 20 drawings produced by their secondary students (grades 11 and 12) for a juried drawing exhibition that will be held in the Visual Arts Gallery at the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts at Brock University.

Submission Deadline: March 15, 2025
Notice of Selected Work: communication of jury results by April 15, 2025
Delivery of Selected Work to the Gallery: April 28 – 30, 2025
Exhibition Dates: May 6 – 17, 2025
Opening Reception: May 10, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
