Most work permits in Canada are employer-specific (or “closed”). This means an employer must sponsor your work permit application. While you may be eligible for this type of work permit, it is an expensive and lengthy process for employers.
Many employers are not willing or not able to sponsor work permits. Additionally, the workers they invite usually need to be highly skilled workers they cannot find among Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
