Amending Your Study Permit

Brock University DLI # 019394569014

If IRCC made an error at the time they issued your study permit, you can request an amendment. IRCC will not amend a document if your information changed after your document was issued.

We strongly recommend all students check their study permit carefully at the Port of Entry for any errors while still in front of the Officer. If there are any errors, you can politely ask to have them corrected on the spot. This is much simpler and faster than applying for an amendment once you are inside Canada.

Common examples:

  • The name on your study permit doesn’t match the passport you used to enter Canada
  • You were eligible to work on and/or off campus but the condition allowing you to work is missing

If your information changed after your permit was issued, you must apply for a study permit extension. Include with your application an explanation of why you are requesting a study permit extension and any relevant documents.
