What is it?
Safe Text is a smartphone-based tool that uses text messaging to provide personalized daily check-in service. It is designed to provide unwavering support and reassurance to students both on and off campus, fostering an environment where they can feel truly safe and cared for.
Through Safe Text, you can quickly let HRE staff know if you are on-campus attending classes and/or leaving campus after classes. We believe that every student deserves to feel supported and empowered, and with Safe Text, we are committed to cultivating a community of understanding and compassion that strengthens the bonds of trust and safety for all students.
How does it work?
To request the Safe Text program, contact us at svsec@brocku.ca to set up your information in our contacts. We’ll need your name, telephone number, and email address, then you’ll choose your daily check-in schedule. You will need to text us when you are on campus. When you check in, we’ll respond with a text to confirm it has been received.
Things to Note:
Safe Text involves regular check-ins while you are on Brock’s campus. The person using the service can be anywhere on campus. The Safe Text program is confidential but nevertheless, text communications, particularly between different service providers may be less secure, so confidentiality of text communications cannot be guaranteed.
If you need more immediate support, you can reach out by contacting Campus Security Services at (905) 688-5550, extension 3200, or by using any of the emergency phones on campus.
