In HRE, we are committed to offering comprehensive, personalized, trauma-informed and survivor-centered support to Brock community members impacted by gender and sexual violence.
Our menu of options aims to empower survivors and promote their safety, healing, and academic success. We understand that each survivor’s journey is unique, and our team is dedicated to tailoring our services to meet their individual needs.
Supports we offer
- Tailored safety assessments to identify potential risks and develop personalized safety plans.
- Collaborative discussions to address safety concerns and explore strategies to enhance your personal safety.
- Confidential guidance on accessing campus resources and external support services related to safety and well-being.
(We acknowledge that some students may find themselves facing the simultaneous impact of all three forms of adversity: gender-based, racial, and sexual violence)
- Regular, private check-ins with dedicated support advisors to ensure ongoing well-being and progress.
- Virtual, Email, or in-person check-ins for convenient access and to foster a sense of trust and safety.
- Continuous evaluation and adaptation of support plans based on the student’s unique needs and progress.
- Assistance in navigating campus policies and procedures related to gender and sexual violence.
- Advocacy support for survivors seeking academic accommodations or other necessary arrangements.
- Referrals to on-campus and community resources for additional support and assistance.
- Access to informative resources on topics such as trauma recovery, consent, and self-care.
- E-learning modules providing education on identifying and responding to gender and sexual violence.
- Safe digital spaces for survivors to engage in discussions and find valuable information.
Please note: The Human Rights and Equity Office and the GSV team do not handle crisis intervention. Crisis management and resources are provided by the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC).
- Immediate crisis support is available through a dedicated helpline for urgent situations.
- Experienced crisis counsellors providing compassionate assistance and de-escalation techniques.
- Swift referral to emergency services or campus security, if required.
