Changes to Designated Smoking Areas take effect June 1

As part of Brock’s commitment to providing a healthy campus environment for all, three Designated Smoking Areas (DSA) for smoking and vaping on the University’s main campus and the DSA at the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts will close on Thursday, June 1.

The following main and east campus DSA locations are closing: the north side of Thistle Complex leading to Alphie’s Trough, the east side of Glenridge behind Gateway Suites Residence and the location in between the International Centre and Quarry View Residence on John MacDonald Street.

Those currently using Thistle and east campus DSAs are advised to use the remaining DSAs behind DeCew Residence Dining Hall at Residence Road or parking lot K between Gordon and Betty Vallee Residence and Alan Earp Residence. The DSA behind Arnie Lowenberger Residence will also remain open.

In May 2019, Brock announced its smoke- and vapour-free corridor, which stretches west to east across Brock’s main and east campuses. The intention is to promote the health of the campus community, reduce second-hand smoke exposure and deter smoking on campus.

While smoking or vaping tobacco is allowed in DSAs, smoking or vaping cannabis anywhere on campus is prohibited.
