Mindful eating workshop among highlights of August employee wellness calendar

Workdays can be busy, which for some people can mean rushing through meals or multitasking while eating.

An upcoming wellness workshop on mindful eating will explore the benefits of slowing down while having a meal. The session is one of several online learning opportunities available to Brock employees included in the August Wellness Calendar prepared by the University’s Health Management team.

As part of the mindful eating workshop, Martina Ciglenecki, Health Management Consultant and Holistic Nutritionist, will discuss how to be more conscious of body-related sensations, internal and external physical cues, and thoughts and feelings about food.

Ciglenecki will also lead a self-care seminar this month, which will focus on tools and resources to implement in advance of the post-summer rush and change in scheduling.

The August Wellness Calendar also promotes upcoming online training offerings of The Working Mind, an education-based program designed to address and promote mental health and reduce the stigma of mental illness in a workplace setting. A four-hour session for employees will be offered in September and a seven-hour session for those who manage or lead people will be offered in October.

More information on the learning opportunities, including dates and registration, is available on ExperienceBU.

Brock community members are also reminded of the University’s year-long initiative to make kindness the norm. The workplace kindness calendar theme for August is ‘inspiration.’ Kindness suggestions for the month include listening to an uplifting podcast, sending a friend or colleague an inspirational message, and teaching someone a new skill that you’re passionate about.

Additional employee wellness resources are available on the Health, Safety and Wellness Toolbox on SharePoint, which includes recordings of wellness workshops, guidelines for healthy virtual meetings and resources from LifeWorks wellness newsletters.

The August LifeWorks wellness newsletter features articles on keeping relationships strong as we age and ways to save more for retirement.
