The TA Community of Practice (CoP) will run through the fall and winter terms, meeting once per month. This CoP will provide a space for TAs to connect, share experiences, discuss challenges, and learn from one another.

Learning Services Workshop: Maintaining Integrity through Crediting Sources (10-11am on Teams)
When should you use quotes to summarize ideas, and when is the right opportunity to use your own words?
The goal of this workshop is to help students understand when and how to use either quotes or paraphrasing in written assignments. Participants will evaluate writing samples, gain practical experience integrating research, and receive feedback while completing different practice activities.

Faculty and Staff Discussion Session (12:30-1:20pm, Hybrid – Teams and TH 135)
Join the Academic Integrity Office for an open and flexible discussion on fostering a culture of academic integrity across Brock University during Academic Integrity Week. This session will provide faculty and staff with an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges, explore emerging trends, and exchange ideas on how we can collectively strengthen academic integrity on campus.
Representatives from the Academic Integrity Office, the Office of the Ombuds, and Brock Learning Services will be present to contribute to the conversation, answer questions, and discuss available support and resources. Whether you are looking to share a successful practice, seek advice on a particular challenge, or simply learn from colleagues across the institution, this collaborative session offers a valuable space for dialogue and connection.

Maxient Workshop (1-2pm on Teams)
Join us for a practical, hands-on workshop designed for Maxient users who manage student academic misconduct cases and related records. This session will focus on the core functions and tools used in Maxient to support efficient case management, from case creation and documentation to correspondence and record management.
Participants will learn best practices for creating and maintaining academic misconduct case records, generating and sending letters, and effectively using key Maxient features such as the Electronic Filing Cabinet (EFC) and Case Resolution Forms (CRFs). The workshop will also highlight strategies for organizing information, streamlining workflows, and ensuring consistent documentation throughout the case management process.

Learning Services Workshop: Academic Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (10-11am on Teams)
This workshop is intended to help you to navigate the opportunities and challenges of AI while maintaining academic integrity. You’ll examine appropriate and inappropriate uses of generative AI, consider the risks of over-reliance on AI tools, and learn to interpret and follow course-specific expectations. Through practice scenarios, you’ll develop strategies for making ethical decisions about AI use, transparency, and attribution.
