MEDIA RELEASE: 15 December 2020 – R0186
Organizations disrupted by COVID-19 have a new opportunity for support.
The Goodman School of Business at Brock University has partnered with the national not-for-profit research organization Mitacs to deliver a subsidized internship program.
The Business Strategy Internship program will support Brock graduate and undergraduate students in undertaking a business-related project with an organization to help restore or modify business operations disrupted by COVID-19.
Mitacs will contribute $5,000 towards a 16-week paid student internship for each project. The supported organization must match the $5,000 contribution in support of student wages. Although only one student can work on each project, organizations can apply for several projects to be funded.
The initiative at Brock will be led by Goodman Group — the Goodman School of Business’ community focused learning and development services provider — which will work closely with the University’s Co-op, Career and Experiential Education Office to pair co-op students with projects.
Students will work remotely as consultants under the supervision, coaching and mentorship of Goodman Group’s Consulting Services team.
“It’s a great opportunity for Brock students to apply the skills they learned in class, gain valuable experience and contribute to the local economy,” said Goodman Group Manager Cassie Price. “Organizations will benefit from having a student work on a project to restore or modify their business in the new economic environment.”
Although internship projects can start as early as January 2021, organizations interested in receiving funding for projects planned for a later date, including the Spring and Summer Terms, can apply now. Applications are due to Goodman Group by Monday, March 1.
To be eligible for funding, organizations must be registered Canadian businesses or incorporated not-for-profits with less than 500 employees. Students must not currently be involved with a Mitacs project.
Although it is expected that most students participating will be Brock co-op students, any Brock students interested in working as a paid consultant are welcome to contact the Goodman Group about the program.
