Like clockwork: 2,400 students to move into Brock University residences Sunday

MEDIA RELEASE: 28 August 2018 – R00156

A large group of Brock University student volunteers and staff members will come together Sunday, Sept. 2 for the University’s annual Move-In Day tradition.

Nearly 2,400 mostly first-year students from across Canada and around the world will be moved into one of Brock’s seven residences between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. To make that schedule work, families are given a one-hour window of time to arrive.

As families arrive and pull into a specific unloading area near their residence, some 600 Brock University students from a wide variety of athletic teams, student clubs and groups, will help unload the incoming students’ belongings and bring them to their assigned room.

“The student volunteers play an essential role as vehicles arrive on campus to unload,” said Jamie Fleming, Director of Residences. “They help move the students’ belongings. They are a welcoming and smiling face — and they provide reassurance that students have made a great choice in coming to this University.”

Hundreds of Brock staff will also be on hand Sunday to help make the introduction to University life a bit easier. Departments and services such as Residences, Dining, Parking, IT Help Desk, Brock Card, Campus Store and the Walker Sports Complex will all be open throughout the day.

“We want students and their families to feel welcomed and that their arrival onto campus is a smooth, efficient process. We could not do this, without the tremendous help and support from people across many areas of campus,” Fleming said.

Because of the logistics required to move 2,400 students into residences, parking and access around the Brock campus will be limited Sunday. People visiting the University for other purposes — including those visiting the Walker Sports Complex or outdoor athletic fields — are asked to park in Zone 1 and allow extra time to get in and out of campus.
