“Brock is not just in this community – it is of this community.”
– Lesley Rigg, President, Brock University
In 1964 Brock University opened its doors as a small undergraduate institution with 142 students attending classes in a church basement and then at a former manufacturing site.
Brock University’s commitment to community was sown long before then with the grassroots movement led by the Allanburg Women’s Institute, which petitioned the government to establish a university in Niagara. The University represented an opportunity for local students to stay in Niagara to be educated, and the region would also benefit economically from Brock becoming a significant employer.
Throughout its history, Brock has maintained its deep roots in the Niagara communities whose energy and generosity made the University’s success possible.
Today, Brock is a comprehensive post-secondary institution welcoming more than 19,000 students from around the world. This diverse population of learners is enrolled in almost 100 undergraduate programs, 50 graduate programs and extensive research activities across six academic faculties on three campuses.
Brock is committed to working with the communities in Niagara, Ontario, Canada and the world. By responding to the needs of society and supporting its growth and development, we strengthen community vitality and vibrancy.
“Community engagement is woven into our history and fabric of our university that was built by and for Niagara, and today we serve the world.”
– Gervan Fearon, President 2017-2021, Brock University
