Brock University and Niagara Parks launched a renewed partnership in April 2024, to enhance our shared pursuit of environmental stewardship, cultural heritage, and engagement with our Region’s natural resources. It places a heightened focus on experiential learning and research opportunities for students, with the ultimate goal of helping geology, plant, animal, and human life thrive through improving understanding of how we can better support the environment and each other.

As two of the largest organizations in the region, Brock and Niagara Parks have committed to collaborating in new ways to intensify their already-robust efforts in research and applied learning. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) enables the two organizations to connect in their respective strengths, and build an even stronger working relationship.

It provides a framework for the two organizations to further impact the vitality of our region’s natural environment, and our engagement with it, in a number of important ways. Through applied, experiential learning and research of water governance and stewardship opportunities, the impact of and resiliency to climate change for our local trees and flora, and enhanced community engagement with the Parks’ many assets, the partners are working to improve the human understanding and respectful enjoyment of natural resources for everyone in Niagara.

“We could not be prouder of the work that has come from our ongoing partnership with Niagara Parks and look forward to all that will be accomplished with this renewed focus now in place. It is by working together that we will continue to grow the life and vitality of our community, including Niagara’s breathtaking landscapes.”

Dr. Lesley Rigg

President, Brock University

“Building on the incredible work in the field of environmental science that resulted from the 2018 MOU, we look forward to seeing this partnership grow to include other areas of study and continue to provide numerous mutual benefits for both of our organizations.”
