The Canadian Wine Library’s mandate is to ensure representation of wines in the cellar from all Canadian Designated Viticulture Regions (DVA).
The CWL is based in Ontario and has a Board of Directors and a Library Collections Committee. British Columbia; Quebec; and Nova Scotia will each have member representation on the CWL Board of Directors as well as its own Library Collections Committee. Each DVA’s Library Collections Committee will be responsible to hold its own tasting to select wines deemed ageable for the Canadian Wine Library. Wines will be stored in the cellar at Brock University for a minimum of 3 years from its harvest date before it can be released for tastings dealing with ageability – Canada wide.
If your winery is already a member of the CWL, we look forward to working together to increase awareness on the age-ability of Canadian wines. Early in 2026, the Ontario Library Collections Committee met and approved 38 wines to the CWL, including some BC wines. NEW wineries – Benefits of having your wines in the collection:
- You are contributing to a visionary project in the advancement of the wines grown and made in Canada. A very special project that tracks how ageable wines evolve.
- You become a proud member of a community of producers who make wines to age.
- Your wines join the collection’s list which is posted on our website and promoted, automatically alerting buyers that your wines have been selected because of their aging potential.
- If your wines are selected for a public tasting, the results of the tasters’ assessments will be sent to you. That feedback can inform you on how your wines are developing. Results from tastings are also stored within the CWL as a record of developing changes in your wines.
- You will receive the results of any research studies conducted involving wines from the collection.
