In partnership with Community Living Niagara, Brock Kinesiology students plan and implement physical activity programs for a group of adults with developmental disabilities.
Baselines are taken across four activity stations during week one and re-assessed in the last week for comparison. Students meet weekly to receive training, plan for upcoming sessions, and unpack the previous week’s events. This project is unique because it was initiated by students and fulfilled a community need. Students develop skills including but not limited to: program facilitation, pedagogical preparation, instructional strategies, observation, baselining, individualized program planning, keeping retrospective field notes, and data analysis. The success this program had during its inaugural year motivated students to continue programming into the spring/summer months.
