Brock University will mark National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) with a full slate of activities promoting accessibility and disability inclusion.
NAAW runs from Monday, May 26 to Friday, May 30, and all events are free and open to the Brock community. Full details can be found on ExperienceBU.
Students, staff and faculty can try inclusive activities during a series of noon-hour adaptive drop-in sport sessions, including boccia, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and adaptive fitness and martial arts. Sessions run daily from noon until 1 p.m. in Gym 2 of the Walker Complex. For questions about the adaptive sport sessions, please email Maureen Connolly at [email protected]
The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation, Brock Recreation, the Human Rights and Equity Office, the Brock Library and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) have collaborated on several events taking place throughout the week.
These include an accessibility tour of the Zone Fitness Centre, a seminar and exhibition on the history of accessibility in post-secondary education, a thank-you card making station, a SAS Open House with a demonstration of the Glean note-taking tool and an Accessibility Chalk and Talk booth located at the Thistle Complex chalkboard across from the Brock Card office.
Participants can also join the NAAW Teaching Resource Challenge. Registrants will receive daily emails throughout the week with tips and tasks to support more accessible teaching and learning spaces. Participants who complete and submit their challenge portfolio will be entered to win prizes.
The week will culminate with the Niagara 2025 Ontario ParaSport Games, taking place across the Niagara region from Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1.
