Mental Health Week aims to cultivate employee well-being

Resiliency and connection will take centre stage during employee Mental Health Week at Brock University.

Taking place Monday, May 5 to Friday, 9, the weeklong series of events is hosted by Brock’s Health Management and Wellness (HSW) team in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Niagara Chapter and coincides with CMHA National Mental Health Week.

Colleagues will have the chance to connect over a meal and enjoy live music during the annual Mental Health Week barbecue lunch on Tuesday, May 6 in the DeCew Residence Dining Hall. Tickets for the event, which cost $20, include a meal and entry into a draw for a door prize valued at $150. Proceeds from the barbecue will be donated to CMHA Niagara to support essential mental health resources and programs in the local community.

Those looking to relax and add a little movement to their day are invited to gather in front of the Schmon Tower at noon on Wednesday, May 7 for Yoga in the Blossoms. The session will be led by yoga instructor and Brock Teaching and Learning Librarian Justine Cotton.

Faculty and staff can also make the most of spring with a Cultivating Your Garden workshop led by John Dick, Manager of Grounds Services, in PLZ 410 at noon on Thursday, May 8.

Managers at Brock can learn more about promoting employee well-being during a Mental Health in the Workplace training session running Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15. The HSW team encourages people leaders who have not yet been certified by the Mental Health Commission of Canada to do so by completing the two-day program. Spots are limited and registration through ExperienceBU is required for those interested in participating.
