Brock to host Academic Integrity Week events

Brock University will join educational institutions across Canada and around the world in acknowledging Academic Integrity Week from Monday, Oct. 16 to Friday, Oct. 20.

The week, focused on the acknowledgment of and respect for the academic principles and behaviours that support the University’s mission, will include resources and information sessions to benefit the Brock community.

Sessions will enable students to better understand what academic integrity is, provide a judgment-free space to share their experiences and highlight available resources, including those offered through Learning Services and the Student Ombuds. There will be a variety of events for different audiences (students, instructors, non-academic staff members) that will help the Brock community to learn more about procedural fairness, records and examination procedures, and how to promote academic integrity in the classroom.

Among the 14 on-campus and virtual events hosted in partnership with the Academic Integrity Office, Brock will also join fellow members of the International Centre for Academic Integrity on Wednesday, Oct. 18 to recognize the International Day of Action for Academic Integrity (IDoA).

The 2023 IDoA theme, “Championing Academic Integrity in the Age of AI,” will be explored through several events held that day, including one co-hosted by Laura Lane, Brock’s Student Success, Manager, Learning Services. Lane will co-host a virtual discussion with a network partner from the University of Dundee (Scotland) titled, “Academic Integrity isn’t just Artificial Intelligence” beginning at 10:30 a.m.

All events and registration details are available on ExperienceBU.

The Learning Services website offers several resources that can help students identify academic misconduct and learn how to avoid it. Additional information for students and instructors is available on the Academic Integrity website, including resources and departments that can be consulted regarding academic integrity policies, procedures and best practices.
