Thesis defences — Sept. 11 to Sept. 15

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Monday, Sept. 11 and Friday, Sept. 15.

Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences (Health Sciences) thesis defences

Jessica Goddard, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “The effect of Jack Chapters on the mental health help seeking attitudes of Canadian secondary school students in the COMPASS study” on Monday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in STH 361.

The examination committee includes Will Pickett, Chair; Karen Patte, Supervisor; Jean Costello, External Examiner (Homewood Research Institute); and Michelle Vine and Scott Leatherdale, Committee Members.

Hussain Chattha, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Does physical activity mediate the relationship between loneliness and mental health in Canadian adolescents?” on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon in STH 361.

Matthew Sudiyono, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “The economic burden of athletic injuries across 10 years of Canada Games” on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in WC 204.

Joint PhD in Educational Studies thesis defence

Taylor Downes, a Joint PhD in Educational Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Pre-Service Teachers Using Social Media: Self-Concept Development in Online Spaces” on Monday, Sept. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

Master of Arts in Applied Disability Studies thesis defence

Rachel Sheppard, a Master of Arts in Applied Disability Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Understanding Transitions for Disabled Students from Secondary to Post-Secondary Education” on Monday, Sept. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. in TH 150 and in hybrid virtual format.

Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies thesis defence

Bingyi Liu, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Stress from Academics, Stress from Interpersonal Relationships, and Academic Burnout Among Chinese Adolescents” on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon in virtual format.

Master of Sustainability thesis defence

Sebastian Roa Goyes, a Master of ​Sustainability candidate, will defend the thesis “Understanding youth attitudes, preferences, and the role of cultural values on intention to use carbon labels on food products: a case study of Argentinian and Canadian consumers” on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. in virtual format.

Master of Arts in Psychology thesis defence

Jacob Stirpe, a Master of Arts in Psychology candidate, will defend the thesis “Investigating Individual Differences in the Aftereffects of Self-Control Exertion” on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in WH 147.
