Student mental health app debuts new name

The app providing Brock students with full-time crisis counselling and mental health resources has a new name and logo.

With LifeWorks, Brock’s Employee and Family Assistance Program provider, changing its name to Telus Health, the My Student Support Program (My SSP) app will now be known as Telus Health Student Support.

Along with a new name, the Telus Health Student Support app now has a new logo.

The app, which is available for download in the App Store and Google Play, will also now appear with a purple logo on students’ phones. Students’ login information and the process of registration will stay the same, however, including being able to complete the intake process in less than a minute.

Like its predecessor, Telus Health Student Support will ensure Brock students have access to real-time, 24-7 confidential support with a professional licensed counsellor via telephone and text chat in five languages: English, French, Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese. Information disclosed to counsellors is confidential and is not shared with the University.

In addition to live and immediate support, the app also offers an extensive library of mental health and well-being resources, including articles, podcasts, infographics and videos; unlimited free access to virtual fitness resources; and anonymous evidence-based self-assessments that can help students identify risks for mental health issues such as depression, general anxiety and addiction.

Mehroon Kassam, Brock’s Manager of Student Health Services and Personal Counselling, said it is important to share the news of the change with the entire Brock community.

“We wanted to make sure students, faculty and staff are aware of the change so they can let students know this resource is available to them,” she said. “Brock is known for its commitment for students’ well-being and Telus Health Student Support plays a key part in that.”

Staff eligible for LifeWorks will see a similar change in branding with no change to service, delivery or access.

Students can continue to call Brock’s student counselling telephone line at 1-833-BROCK33 (1-833-276-2533, or 001-416-382-3257 if outside of North America) to receive 24-7 crisis support and to book personal counselling appointments.
