Brock University instructors are invited to an upcoming discussion and information session on streamlining access to course materials.
Organized collaboratively by the Brock University Library, the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI) and the Campus Store, the drop-in event will take place Thursday, March 2 on the 300 level of the Rankin Family Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A 15-minute presentation planned for 11:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. will discuss the current state of the course materials landscape and highlight the various resources and new integrations available to instructors.
Vice-Provost Teaching and Learning Rajiv Jhangiani says the event addresses a need identified in Brock’s new Academic Plan to “streamline the processes by which students access learning materials and maximize the use of library resources for course support.”
“As we work collaboratively to advance this goal, we recognize that our instructors are key to this vision of a more accessible, affordable and integrated learning materials ecosystem,” he says.
The event will discuss the roles of the Brock Library, the Campus Store and Brock’s learning management system, and the pros and cons of instructors linking, embedding, adapting and adopting resources.
University Librarian Mark Robertson says student success is at the forefront of these discussions and that instructor feedback is key to kickstarting positive change.
“There are so many great resources available to instructors, but navigating them can sometimes be bewildering,” he says. “We want to find better ways to integrate the course material landscape into a seamless experience for instructors and students. We are eager to hear more from instructors about their experience in facilitating access to course materials, and how we can help.”
Interested instructors, including full-time faculty members, adjunct instructors and graduate students, are asked to email Diem Chanhsavang, Executive Assistant to the University Librarian, by Monday, Feb. 27. Light food and refreshments will be provided.
