Managing email workshop, physical activity challenge among highlights of November employee wellness calendar

How many unread email messages is too many? A dozen? 100? More?

An upcoming webinar will offer Brock employees tips and examples for getting to ‘inbox zero.’ Tackling the Inbox Monster will take place on Monday, Nov. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. The workshop is one of several wellness initiatives planned for the November employee wellness calendar, prepared by Brock University’s Health Management team.

The annual Timed Trek to the North Pole will return this month to help motivate employees to maintain or increase their physical activity as the days get darker. Participants will track their physical activity minutes from Monday, Nov. 14 to Friday, Dec. 16 to see if they can collectively accumulate more than 100,000 minutes to make the trek to the North Pole and back before the holiday season.

Also highlighted in the November employee wellness calendar is a decision-making workshop and workplace mental health training. Stuck Between ‘I WANT to do this’ but I think I SHOULD do that’ will be led by a certified life and wellness coach on Thursday, Nov. 17 from noon to 12:45 p.m. Space is full for The Working Mind – employee session on for Wednesday, Nov. 16; however, employees are encouraged to add themselves to the waitlist or other upcoming dates.

More information, including registration details, on the wellness opportunities is available on ExperienceBU.

Brock community members are also reminded of the University’s year-long initiative to make kindness the norm. The workplace kindness calendar theme for November is ‘gratitude.’ Kindness suggestions for the month include writing a positive online review for a local business, filling a gratitude jar with daily notes to read at the end of the month and spending time reflecting on joyful moments.

Additional employee wellness resources are available on the Health, Safety and Wellness Toolbox on SharePoint, which includes recordings of wellness workshops and resources from LifeWorks wellness newsletters

The November LifeWorks newsletter features articles discussing getting along with relatives during the holidays, including tips for peacekeeping and apologizing effectively.

Employees interested in wellness events being offered throughout the year are invited to join the Health, Safety and Wellness organization on ExperienceBU to keep apprised of new events being posted. (Employees may need to log in to ExperienceBU before being able to click on the blue ‘join’ button.)

Questions about employee wellness resources and ideas for future wellness workshops can be emailed to employeehealth@brocku.ca
