Physical activity challenge highlight of June employee wellness calendar

Brock employees are encouraged to get moving this spring and summer by participating in a physical activity challenge.

Organized by the University’s Human Resources Health Management and Wellness team, the Timed Trek Across Canada will take place from Wednesday, June 1 to Sunday, July 31. Participants can accumulate physical activity minutes through a variety of exercises that suit their lifestyle.

The goal is to collectively reach 122,000 minutes of movement, which is about the time it would take to travel across Canada and back.

“Joining a challenge is a great way to set personal activity goals and hold yourself accountable,” says Martina Ciglenecki, Health Management Consultant. “Plus, it’s motivating knowing there are team members doing the same thing as you and counting on your participation to get in daily exercise minutes.”

As an extra incentive, the Health and Wellness team will be drawing one name from a list of participants to win a Campus Store gift card at the end of the challenge.

Ciglenecki encourages anyone interested in participating to kickstart their physical activity by joining Brock’s Rankin Cancer Run on Tuesday, May 31.

The June employee wellness calendar also has resources employees can use to get moving. Virtual Zumba is planned for Tuesday, June 7 from noon to 1 p.m. and a recording of a virtual yoga session that took place during Mental Health Week earlier this month is available to watch on demand.

Also included in the June wellness calendar is an Ergonomics 101 session on Wednesday, June 15 from 1:15 to 2 p.m. and a link to a recording of a wellness webinar on reframing self-criticism as self-compassion.

Employees can also get moving by using the free virtual fitness platform LIFT, which is available through the University’s Employee and Family Assistance Program provider, LifeWorks. Learn more by watching this recorded LIFT Session information session.

Additional wellness workshop recordings are available on the Health, Safety and Wellness Toolbox on SharePoint.
