Wide range of global experiences available to Brock students this summer

Brock students have the chance to immerse themselves in the culture of South Korea, rock climb the mountains of Taiwan or scuba dive the Verde Passage in the Philippines this summer.

Offered through Brock’s International Mobility office, the opportunities are part of a wide range of destinations offering students the chance to experience global culture, while earning academic credit towards their degree.

“Participating in an international program is a great way to broaden your horizons both academically and personally,” said Jesse Barraza, Manager, International Learning Programs.

Students can enrol in the summer programs starting at just over $1,000, plus the cost of flights.

“Our institutional partners have been working diligently to provide educational opportunities for students around the world that don’t break the bank,” Barraza said. “Many are providing scholarships in an effort to make these learning experiences abroad more accessible to the average student.

Registering for the summer program with Chonnam National University in South Korea earns students up to one academic credit and includes several excursions such as tours of a green tea plantation, local temple and the Yeongam F1 motorsport circuit. The trip runs from June 23 to July 20 and costs $1,672, plus the cost of flights.

Thrill-seekers and adventure enthusiasts are encouraged to register with the National Taiwan University of Sport for a summer program running from May 26 to June 8 or July 4 to 26, and starting at a cost of $2,145, plus the cost of flights). Two programs are available that focus either on mountaineering, rock climbing and canyoneering or a cycling tour through the mountains of Taiwan. Both opportunities will count as a half credit towards a Brock degree.

Those interested in biodiversity can register for a summer program at De La Salle University in the Philippines for the chance to explore the marine ecology of the Southern Tagalog region. Students will be trained in basic scuba diving (PADI Discover SCUBA Course) and will explore destinations including the Verde Island Passage. The program runs from June 30 to July 13 and costs $1,660, plus the cost of flights.

Students interested in learning more about summer opportunities are encouraged to attend an information session Wednesday, March 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the International Centre (GLB 207). Additional info sessions are planned for Monday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 27.
