Scholarship recipients getting down to business this summer

Brock students Madi Fuller and Dan Giddings are set to spend their summers as full-time entrepreneurs thanks to the Deborah E. Rosati Entrepreneurial Scholarship.

Each year, this unique scholarship provides two Brock University students with $10,000 in funding that allows them to spend an entire semester working on their business ideas in partnership with BioLinc, Brock’s business incubator run by the Goodman School of Business.

The scholarship is generously provided by Brock graduate Deborah Rosati (BAdmin ’84) who has shown incredible dedication to supporting entrepreneurship at the Goodman School of Business.

Fuller and Giddings are both set to work out of BioLinc’s facility for the next four months and will reap the benefits of a network of support that has been built up around the scholarship opportunity.

Fuller is co-founder of Campus Brainiac, a web platform and mobile application that simplifies peer tutoring, which won awards at Monster Pitch and Blueprint competitions earlier this year. A new milestone in Campus Brainiac’s development is a partnership with Free the Children, which will see a percentage of each tutoring session’s proceeds donated to the charity.

Giddings is working on his idea for a more ergonomic design of a consumer product and is in discussions to purchase the necessary patents and trademarks.

Both will be spending their days refining their business plans while meeting regularly with an advisory committee made up of business leaders who have stepped up to offer their expertise.

Fuller and Giddings are both grateful for being given this unique opportunity to spend a full four months focusing on their respective ventures.

“This award is an amazing opportunity for me to be able to focus the next four months on my business idea. Without Ms. Rosati’s support, I would not have been able to dedicate the same amount of time to my business,” Giddings said.
