Bradley Thachuk will be music director and principal conductor for the 2011-12 season of the Niagara Symphony. He will be responsible for all artistic aspects of the symphony, including programming, guest artist selection and personnel. He is also responsible for revitalizing the symphony’s relationship with the community.

“This outstanding orchestra has a distinguished past and huge potential,” Thachuk said. “I look forward to the challenge of exploring and expanding that potential as the Niagara Symphony becomes an even more vital part of the Niagara community.”

The Toronto-born maestro is concluding a nine-year term as associate conductor of the Fort Wayne (Indiana) Philharmonic. He is the seventh music director and principal conductor in the Niagara Symphony’s 63-year history.

Thachuk’s work has included:

  • serving as music director of the Fort Wayne Youth Orchestra
  • conducting for the Fort Wayne Ballet
  • recent guest conducting engagements with the Richmond (Virginia) Symphony, the Windsor Symphony and the Reading (Pennsylvania) Symphony
  • serving in various positions with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras, Miami University in Ohio and the Brampton Symphony Orchestra
  • guest conducting in Slovakia, Switzerland, Italy and Portugal, as well as conducting the Hradec Kralove Philharmonic in the Czech Republic

Thachuk will lead the Niagara Symphony in An Opening Celebration on Oct. 3.
