Alumni help developing countries prepare for Commonwealth Games

Two Brock alumni will spend the next year in Africa helping developing countries prepare for the Commonwealth Games.

Jamie Macari, 26, of St. Catharines and Paddye Magill, 23, of Ottawa will work abroad through the Capacity Support Program (CSP) of Commonwealth Games Canada. Macari will work with the Uganda Olympic Committee. Magill will work with the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association. Seychelles is a nation of 115 islands located east of mainland Africa.

The Brock grads are among six sport administration interns from across Canada selected for the program. All have impressive backgrounds in athletics, Commonwealth Games Canada said in a recent media release.

Macari studied Kinesiology at Brock, graduating in 2007. Magill studied Sport Management and is graduating this year.

The games will be in Delhi, India on Oct. 3 to 14.

CSP is offered through International Development through Sport, a branch of Commonwealth Games Canada.
