Research on Niagara’s economic development to be released at Brock event

With the right development approach, Niagara can continue to be a powerhouse in the key sectors of agribusiness, manufacturing and tourism, says new Brock University research.

A Niagara Community Observatory (NCO) report, to be released Tuesday, Sept. 17, analyzes the region’s established and emerging sectors and how the Niagara Region’s 10-year Economic Development Strategy addresses these areas. It also recommends a variety of ways to boost Niagara’s economic resiliency.

The report will be released at the Wilson Foundation Fall Symposium on the History of Economic Development in Niagara, which begins at 9 a.m. at Brock University.

Presenting the report will be co-authors Professor of Political Science and NCO Director Charles Conteh and NCO Research Fellow Nathan Olmstead. A panel, including Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce CEO Mishka Balsom, Rel8ed Analytics CEO Bob Lytle and Vineland Research and Innovation Centre President and CEO Ian Potter, will also share their perspectives on Niagara’s future.

A wide variety of officials from regional and local governments, business and industry associations, non-profit groups, research intuitions and others are expected to attend.
