MEDIA RELEASE: 3 April 2018 – R00069
The arrival of spring on campus is a sign that recruitment season is in full bloom, and early indicators are showing a growing trend towards Brock University.
Though it will be months before universities have a clear picture of their enrolment for September, Brock officials are cautiously optimistic as the early numbers begin to roll in.
The University’s data suggests that applications for admission to Brock from potential first-year students are up by more than five per cent from the same time last year. Programs within the Faculties of Applied Health Sciences, Mathematics and Science, and Social Sciences are so far showing the largest increases over 2017.
“Increasing applications and confirmations from around the world are evidence that Brock’s reputation is also growing, in terms of academic excellence and student experience,” says University Registrar Geraldine Jones. “And while there is still plenty of time left in this enrolment cycle, we are confident that we will be in great shape this September.”
Recruitment activities so far this spring have also revealed rising levels of interest in Brock. Participation by potential students and their families in campus tours during the recent March Break increased by 25 per cent over last year.
Advance registrations are also very strong for this Sunday’s Spring Open House, suggesting the University could match or surpass last year’s record-breaking attendance of nearly 5,000 visitors.
Open House participants will have an opportunity to tour campus while learning more about available academic programs, experiential education options, student services and research opportunities. Open House, held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will also include tours of residences, research labs, athletic facilities and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts downtown.
With thousands of guests expected on campus, the entire Brock community will join together to offer a warm welcome and ensure prospective students and their families see first-hand all of the exceptional opportunities that are part of the Brock experience.
“Brock’s spectacular campus and its vibrant and accomplished community of people are at the heart of why the Brock experience is second-to-none,” says Beth Natale, Director of Recruitment. “We look forward to sharing an insider’s glimpse on April 8.”
The Open House experience is often the deciding factor in a student’s journey to Brock, making it one of the most important days on the recruitment calendar. Ontario secondary school applicants have until June 1 to determine their final plans for September.
