MEDIA RELEASE: 27 November 2017 – R00222
Media: A print-ready story and photo package will be made available immediately after the games Saturday night to any media unable to attend. Arrangements for video highlights must be made in advance.
The top two men’s basketball teams in the country will clash in St. Catharines Saturday night and only one of their undefeated records will be left standing.
The Brock Badgers women’s and men’s basketball teams will host the Carleton Ravens in a doubleheader at the Meridian Centre Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
For the 4-5 Badger women, it’s a chance to pull off a major upset and take their biggest win in years. For the men, it’s the opportunity to swap places with Carleton atop the Canadian university basketball rankings. The Ravens head into the weekend ranked first with a perfect 7-0 record. The Badgers are ranked second with an unblemished 8-0 record. If you include the pre-season, the Brock men have won 14 straight games stretching back to August.
Not only is the No. 1 ranking on the line, the game could easily be a preview of the USports national championship — of which Carleton has won seven straight titles.
Tickets for the doubleheader at the Meridian Centre have been moving quickly on Ticketmaster online. Prices are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth. A handful of $35 courtside tickets are also still available, while a limited number of free tickets for Brock University students became available Monday at the Walker Sports Complex Welcome Desk.
The games Saturday will wrap up a Brock basketball doubleheader weekend. On Friday, Dec. 1, the Badgers will host Ottawa at Brock’s Bob Davis Gymnasium with the women playing at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. The Ottawa women’s team has a 3-5 record while the men, ranked ninth in Canada, have a 5-2 record.
NOTE: Media planning to cover the Meridian Centre games are asked to RSVP in advance to Dan Dakin and then use the arena’s Community Entrance at the side of the building.
