Visiting International Scholar

The Visiting International Scholar (VIS) pathway at Brock University invites faculty and scholars at the graduate, doctorate, and post-doctorate levels to enhance their professional development in a vibrant new environment.

Visiting International Professor

The Visiting International Professor (VIP) pathway offers professors* the chance to share their multifaceted experiences, viewpoints, and approaches with Brock students.

University Mentorship

The University Mentorship (UM) pathway connects international undergraduate and graduate students** with a Brock faculty or staff mentor who shares similar research interests.

This internship-style program offers students the chance to complete academic job shadowing, observe innovative teaching and learning techniques, and network with professionals in their field of interest. Enhance your academic journey and professional network with Brock’s UM pathway.

Located just 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, Brock offers all the benefits of a comprehensive university in a safe, community-minded city with beautiful natural surroundings. Our main campus is on the Niagara Escarpment and is the only Canadian university located within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

*Visiting International Professors must have been formally offered a teaching position at Brock.
**University Mentorship is ideal for students but is also open to faculty, staff and researchers from abroad.

Program Fees

  • $150 (CAD) program fee per visit
    • This program fee covers a formal letter of invitation, pre-arrival assistance, accommodation information, on-arrival orientation, a Brock ID card, and an email account.
  • $63 (CAD) per month for University Health Insurance Plan (this is mandatory coverage for participants)
  • Scholars are responsible for their own travel and living expenses.

FAQ

What You Need to Know

A complete application includes a filled application form, letter of institutional support (from your home institution), a CV, goals and objectives, filled liability waiver, and scan of your passport.

A strong application will have a faculty host who has agreed to supervise your visit. If you do not have a faculty host, we can help facilitate introductions between faculty who may be a good fit for your research.

A scholar can stay anywhere from 2 weeks up to 2 years in the program.

Typically, applications are processed every 2 weeks.

Our immigration team will review your case and let you know what is required (typically a work permit). Please note that immigration processing times can be very lengthy and depend on the country you are applying from.

There is a $150 program fee as well as $63/month for the University Health Insurance Plan. There will also be fees involved with the immigration process. Housing fees, food, and bus tickets are also the responsibility of the visiting scholar.

You will have access to all of the buildings on campus, including the library and computer labs. You will receive a Brock email and ID card for access to the computers. You will need to purchase a membership to access the recreation facilities (gym).
