Types of Funding Available

Funding for International Faculty Members from Outside of Canada

The following funding opportunities are available for international faculty members currently employed full-time at a post-secondary institution outside of Canada.

Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program (CCFLP)

The Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program (CCFLP) aims to provide professional development opportunities for faculty wishing to upgrade their knowledge and skills in Canada, and for international managers/administrators who are responsible for promoting student mobility between their home country/territory and Canada.

Eligible applicants must be:

  • A citizen of one of the CARICOM member and associate member states:
    • Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos.
  • Employed full-time as a faculty or international liaison officer/manager at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country/territory at the time of application and for the entire duration of your stay in Canada.

You are not eligible for this scholarship if:

  • You hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • You are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada.
  • You are already enrolled in a degree, diploma or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Institutions must ensure documents are complete and accurate as per the instructions below.

Please note:

  • Revised documents will not be accepted after the deadline.
  • Documents in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by a translation.

YOU NEED TO PROVIDE US WITH:

1. Proof of citizenship

  • A copy of the candidate’s passport or national identity card with a photo and valid dates.
  • Documents not accepted as proof of citizenship are: driver’s license, permanent residence card, work permit, student card, health card, birth certificate or baptismal certificate.
  • Proof of citizenship selected must be from the same country/territory as the citizenship selected in the online application form.

2. Signed Privacy Notice Statement

3. Letter of intent from you (maximum one page)

  • Explains the nature of studies, research or practicum to be undertaken.
  • Provides rationale for study in Canada and for the choice of institution, program and supervisor and how the proposed program of study or research will relate to their career.

4. Letter of support from your home institution (maximum one page)

  • On official letterhead.
  • Dated within the last six months.
  • From the candidate’s instructor, professor or international director.
  • Explains the nature of study or research to be undertaken in Canada and how the candidate and the home institution will benefit from this scholarship program.
  • Confirms that the candidate is employed full-time as a faculty member or international manager/administrator.

5. Letter of invitation from the Canadian supervisor (graduate students only, maximum one page)

  • On official letterhead
  • Dated within the last six months.
  • Signed by the Canadian supervisor.
  • Confirms their willingness to support and mentor the candidate during the exchange period.
  • Confirms that tuition fees, if any, will be waived by the Canadian institution.
  • Explains how the Canadian institution, supervisor and peers will benefit from the exchange.

IN ADDITION, WE WILL SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:

6. Signed copy of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Agreement with the partner institution

  • An inter-institutional agreement signed by both institutions is recommended.

Funding for Brock Faculty Members

Faculty Mobility for Partnership Building Program (FMPBP)

Up to $7,000 depending on duration (3 to 8 weeks)

The Faculty Mobility for Partnership Building Program (FMPBP) is part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Scholarships Program.

FMPBP enables professors at Canadian post-secondary institutions to pursue short-term research and/or teaching activities in Latin America and the Caribbean as a means of exploring, creating and advancing institutional partnerships in the areas of research, student mobility, joint programming, capacity building, and others.

The primary objective of the exchange is to create new institutional collaborations and/or to strengthen existing agreements between Canadian and non-Canadian post-secondary institutions eligible under the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP).

The scholarship value is $7000 maximum for 3-8 weeks of teaching and/or conducting research in ELAP-eligible countries.

DAAD Canada

Funding and opportunities in Germany

DAAD Canada offers opportunities and funding for short-term research stays or long-term research positions in a university, research institute or industry. International researchers and faculty can pursue research and work as part of an international team in Germany.
