Case Study – Building Capacities for Inclusive Education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Between 2021 and 2023, faculty from Brock University’s Faculty of Education provided training to teachers, teaching assistants, and representatives of the Ministry of Education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to build a community of practice for inclusive education in schools across the country.

Pilot Project Implemented

on the island of Bequia with funding from The World Bank resulting in 21 students with special needs being integrated into mainstream schools.

Brock University helped to initiate inclusion practices in schools in St. Vincent and the Grenadines through:

  • Virtual and in-country teacher training
  • Creation of support groups
  • Technology implementation
  • Transitional support
  • Asynchronous training resources

  • Needs assessments to identify strengths and opportunities in schools
  • Design and delivery of training programs to develop in-house leaders and experts
  • Providing, practicing and discussing research-based tools to support and enhance teachers’ efficacy in creating successful learning opportunities for all students
