Kareen Brown holds a PhD from the University at Buffalo, an MBA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Illinois, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. In 2013, she began teaching at the Goodman School of Business as an Assistant Professor and became an Associate Professor in 2016. She teaches accounting theory and external financial reporting courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Brown earned the Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation, and currently holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. She also is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA) and the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA).

Brown has been a member of the CPA/Goodman Institute for International Issues in Accounting Advisory Council, and the Goodman Centre for Business Analytics Committee. She has been a reviewer for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Committee (SSHRC).

Fayez A. Elayan holds a PhD in Finance from Louisiana State University, an MBA in Finance and Investments from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Jordan. He began teaching at the Goodman School of Business in 2004 as an Associate Professor, became a Professor in 2009, and is currently the Chair of the Accounting department.

He has also been an Assistant Professor at North Dakota State University and Northeast Louisiana University, an Associate Professor at Southwest Missouri State University and a Professor at Massey University in New Zealand. At Goodman, Elayan has taught courses in accounting theory, financial accounting, and tax strategy in the undergraduate programs, and corporate governance, advanced accounting theory, research methods, financial accounting decision-making, advanced corporate finance, financial statements analysis, and taxation in the graduate programs.

Elayan is a member of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, the Decision Sciences Institute, and the American Allied Social Science Association.

Jacqui Mulligan

Vice President, Education, CPA Ontario

Jacqui Mulligan is the Vice President of Education for CPA Ontario, a professional association with more than 90,000 members and 21,000 students. CPA Ontario serves to protect the public interest, advance the accounting profession, and guide a new generation of Chartered Professional Accountants as they develop into responsible and confident business leaders.

Jacqui has been involved in shaping the profession’s accounting education for more than 15 years and continues to be a leader in pre-certification education at CPA Ontario. Prior to joining CPA Ontario, Jacqui worked at Sun Life Financial Inc. on their Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) team and at PricewaterhouseCoopers in external audit.

Jacqui is a Chartered Professional Accountant and earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto.

Alyssa Stuppiello

Alyssa joined DiPaola DiPietro & Little Professional Corporation in September 2013. Alyssa was born and raised in St. Catharines. She graduated from Brock University with First Class Standing in 2012 with an Honours Bachelor of Accounting – Co-op degree. In 2013, she earned her Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant designations from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Alyssa has several years of accounting, tax, and audit and assurance experience in other Niagara region-based firms. She has experience servicing clients across a wide spectrum of industries including retail, not-for-profit organizations, investment, farms, and various other owner-managed private corporations. Alyssa resides in St. Catharines. She is a pet lover and enjoys traveling. Her furthest trip has taken her to Kenya, Africa with Me to We.

Narongsak (Tek) Thongpapanl is the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Programs, and Professor of Marketing and Product Innovation at Goodman School of Business. He received his PhD in Management and MBA in Technological Entrepreneurship from the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) from the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr Thongpapanl is a Research Fellow with the Research Administration Centre at Chiang Mai University, and the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) at Brock University.

Dr. Thongpapanl’s work—funded by both internal and external grants, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRCC)—appears or is forthcoming in such leading management and business journals as Journal of Product Innovation Management, Technovation, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practices, R&D Management, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, International Business Review, Journal of Business Research, International Small Business Journal, Small Business Economics, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Public Affairs, and Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, among others.

Dr Thongpapanl has been recognized with awards for outstanding contributions on the research, teaching, and service fronts. His recent recognition includes the 2019 Brock’s Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2018 Brock’s Michael Plyley Graduate Mentorship Award, 2016 University of Canterbury’s Visiting Erskine Fellowship, 2016 Goodman’s Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award, 2015 Goodman’s Departmental Researcher of the Year Award within Marketing, International Business, and Strategy, 2015 Journal of International Marketing’s Outstanding Reviewer Award, and 2015 CPA Ontario’s REC Research Grant. In addition to reviewing for many respected journals in the field, he also currently serves as Associate Editor of Technovation (the International Journal of Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology Management), and as Member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of International Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, and Journal of Business Research.
