Participants in the Rankin Cancer Run set off from outside Brock University’s Schmon Tower on Saturday, May 23. The annual event brought hundreds thousands of community members to campus to raise funds for local cancer care.Rainy skies did little to dampen the enthusiasm of participants who gathered at Brock University on Saturday, May 23 for the Rankin Cancer Run.
The annual event, which was supported by Brock staff, students and volunteers, brought the Niagara community together in support of local cancer care, with participants taking part in one- and five-kilometre routes through campus.
The day began with registration and community activities before the Kiddie Sprint at Weather Station Field. Opening remarks followed from Rankin Cancer Run representatives and Brock leaders, including President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg, event founder Tom Rankin and Megan Dyk, a Niagara teen whose cancer journey has been supported by Wellspring Niagara.
Funds raised through the Rankin Cancer Run stay in Niagara and support local cancer care initiatives and organizations such as Wellspring Niagara.
Following the run, participants returned to Weather Station Field for a barbecue and post-race activities.
