Brock University will lower its flags to half-mast on April 28 in recognition of the National Day of Mourning, which honours workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace hazards.The Brock community will honour workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace hazards by marking the National Day of Mourning on Tuesday, April 28.
The University’s flags will be lowered to half-mast for the annual day of remembrance, and members of the Brock community are encouraged to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m.
“On this National Day of Mourning, we pause to remember those whose lives were changed forever and recommit ourselves to building safer workplaces for all,” says Director of Health, Safety and Wellness James Iseghayan.
According to the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada, there were 1,057 workplace fatalities and 274,022 accepted claims for time lost due to workplace injuries or illnesses in 2023.
