Brock University is seeking two additional world-class researchers through the Government of Canada’s Canada Global Impact+ Research Talent Initiative, a national effort to attract top international talent in priority research areas.
The Initiative offers $1.7 billion over 12 years to support institutions in the recruitment of cutting-edge research talent whose work advances societal well-being, economic growth, environmental sustainability and inclusive innovation.
In total, Brock is in the process of recruiting five Canada Impact+ Research Chairs under the Initiative. Three searches have now closed, and two opportunities are currently posted on the University’s website.
“These programs represent some of the most prestigious and competitive research recruitment opportunities globally. They reflect Brock’s confidence in its research strengths and our ability to attract exceptional talent,” says Vice-President, Research Tim Kenyon. “Just as importantly, they build on impact Brock is already delivering and create a pathway to accelerate that work in ways that align with national priorities and generate direct economic, societal and health benefits.”
The Canada Impact+ Research Chair in Systems and Tissue Crosstalk will lead a program addressing the rapidly rising burden and cost of chronic, age-related diseases. Areas of investigation include changes in molecular and cell biology as well as exercise, lifestyle and behavioural interventions to improve physiological function and health outcomes.
“This Chair will strengthen Brock’s research by bringing world-leading expertise in integrative biology, accelerating discovery, attracting top trainees and collaborators, and expanding the University’s national and international impact,” says Associate Professor of Health Sciences Rebecca MacPherson.
The closing date for the position is Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. The last full business day to apply is Wednesday, March 25.
The Canada Impact+ Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Social Change will lead a program advancing a global understanding of how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are designed, deployed, governed and experienced in real-world social contexts with the aim of developing more inclusive and equitable AI practices.
“The research chair in Artificial Intelligence and Social Change will help people understand the rapid pace of technological development related to AI, which is already transforming our relationship to work, knowledge, art, politics and our own humanity,” says Associate Professor of Digital Media Aaron Mauro.
The closing date for the position is Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. The last full business day to apply is Wednesday, March 25.
These two current recruitments build on three earlier Canada Impact+ Research Chair searches that have now closed: Human Mobility and Wearable Technologies; Climate and Environmental Change; and Sustainable Agriculture for Grape and Wine (Professor or Associate Professor). Information on the previous postings is available in Brock’s Research Chairs archive.
