Brock President applauds Ontario’s action to support post-secondary sustainability

A message from Brock University President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg on the Ontario government’s funding announcement Thursday, Feb. 12:

Brock University joins institutions across the sector in welcoming the bold action taken by the Ontario government with an increase of $6.4 billion over four years towards higher education.

This investment also sees movement on the longstanding cut and freeze of tuition rates, capping tuition increases at two per cent annually and providing a more sustainable funding framework for the sector.

We’re grateful for the province’s investment, which will support Ontario’s universities, including Brock, in our key role of preparing graduates, equipping them with the tools necessary to reshape the world through curiosity, courage and creativity.

This funding will drive research and innovation needed to strengthen and grow Canada’s economy and improve quality of life in our communities.

While this announcement is welcomed and comes at a critical time, we must recognize there remains work to be done. Funding is predicated on our continued work to find efficiencies and on our ability to expand on high-demand and high-priority programs that support growth and prosperity across the province and country.

This investment highlights the vital role universities play in Canada’s workforce and economy. Now, we must continue to do our part to ensure a sustainable future for the sector.

Sincerely,

Lesley Rigg
President and Vice-Chancellor, Brock University
