Gallery: Students offer a helping hand across Niagara

Brock University students began the school year by giving back to the community they now call home.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, the annual Brock Cares Day of Service saw 185 students volunteer their time with more than a dozen organizations across Niagara, offering a helping hand to the YWCA Niagara, Canadian Blood Services, the Niagara Falls Community Outreach Soup Kitchen and Habitat for Humanity, among other groups.

The day of giving back, which highlights Brock’s commitment to community involvement and strong ties to the Niagara region, launched a monthly series of opportunities for students to continue to volunteer their time throughout the year.

In addition to Brock Cares, Saturday saw the University’s Welcome Wagon roll into neighbourhoods in Thorold and St. Catharines. A team of Brock students and staff along with local partners visited 500 homes throughout the day to build positive connections and share Off-Campus Living and Neighbourhood Relations resources.

Volunteers and community members rounded out the day by coming together for a community dinner hosted by the Thorold Business Improvement Association at the Moose and Goose in downtown Thorold.
