Mass Notification System test planned for Saturday

Brock University is joining communities and organizations across Canada in marking Emergency Preparedness Week.

The national initiative, which runs from Sunday, May 4 to Saturday, May 10, aims to raise awareness and share resources to help individuals and communities prepare for emergencies.

As part of its emergency preparedness efforts, Brock will conduct a full-scale test of the Mass Notification System on the evening of Saturday, May 10.

This system can broadcast urgent messages across all Brock network computer screens, electronic message boards, email, voicemail extensions and social media platforms.

The University is also reminding students, staff and faculty to prepare for potential emergencies by:

  • Understanding the risks in their communities, such as potential flooding or weather-related events. The Be Prepared Niagara video on YouTube shares some potential local risks and preparedness tips.
  • Making plans in advance to ensure they, along with family or colleagues, can respond effectively to an emergency at home or at work.
  • Preparing an emergency kit of basic supplies that would allow them to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours during an emergency.

Members of the University community are also encouraged to download the Brock Safety App, which contains emergency contacts and helpful links and is routinely used for sharing information, including about emergency situations.
