Emergency response Nursing simulation set for Friday

Brock University Nursing students will test the life-saving skills they’ve learned in class during an emergency simulation planned for Friday, May 16.

Led by the Department of Nursing and held during National Nursing Week, the “code orange” disaster training exercise will see 32 Bachelor of Nursing/Master of Nursing students respond to a simulated emergency scene, complete with sirens, smoke machines and a simulated explosion.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-time, high-intensity scenario,” said Magdalena Dobosiewicz, Graduate Program Clinical Supervisor.

The immersive experiential education activity will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the alley between East Academic Buildings 2 and 3.

Students will enter the scene through the east side door of East Academic Building 3, encountering a simulated disaster zone marked by yellow caution tape and signage alerting passersby to the emergency response training in progress.

This hands-on emergency preparedness training for Nursing students reflects Brock’s ongoing commitment to experiential education across all disciplines.

“It’s about building confidence, rapid communication techniques and teamwork under pressure, but in a controlled environment,” said Vanessa Silva e Silva, Assistant Professor and course instructor.
