GALLERY: Community events share a taste of Black, African culture

From classrooms to kitchens, the Brock community gathered across campus to mark Black History Month/African Heritage Month during dozens of events last month.

The programming cumulated with Afro-Caribbean Night, a student-focused celebration of the richness of African and Caribbean food, fashion and music on Friday, Feb. 28.

Organized by the Black Students Success Centre, the Brock University Students’ Union and student clubs, the gathering was one of several throughout February that fostered inclusivity and cultural appreciation by bringing the University’s vibrant communities together in social settings.

Events like Community Cook Along sessions, which highlighted the cultural significance of traditional Nigerian and Caribbean meals, and the second annual Carnival workshop also highlighted the significance of community, diversity and shared experiences by providing opportunities to come together to celebrate pride in culture and identity.
