Brock University faculty and staff are invited to explore how they can tangibly contribute to decolonization and indigenization efforts as part of an interactive workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Hosted by the Office of People and Culture, the session will unpack the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) 94 Calls to Action and support attendees in developing strategies for applying those calls to their work at Brock.
Calling in the Calls to Action will be facilitated by Vice-President, Indigenous Engagement Robyn Bourgeois and run from 10 a.m. to noon in Pond Inlet. This is the second edition of the workshop, which was first held as part of Brock’s observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30.
The TRC was established to listen to those impacted by the residential school system and to educate Canadians about those experiences. It also lays the foundation for lasting reconciliation through the implementation of its Calls to Action for governments, organizations, communities and individuals across Canada.
Event participants will discuss how to meaningfully engage with those recommendations and will work together to create a “Treaty for Action” that will extend learnings beyond the event and across campus.
All faculty and staff are invited to attend but registration is required via ExperienceBU by Thursday, Dec. 5.
Participation in the first iteration of Calling in the Calls to Action is not a requirement to attend, and those who participated in the initial workshop are also encouraged to register and participate in the second edition. Past participants can also bring the beads they previously created to be used in the upcoming session. All registrants will receive access to the event’s Brightspace before the event to prepare for the workshop.
