Brock University joins communities and institutions across Canada in recognizing National AccessAbility Week from Sunday, May 26 to Saturday, June 1.
The annual event celebrates the contributions of people with disabilities while also promoting inclusion and accessibility in communities and workplaces across Canada.
As part of National AccessAbility Week, Brock will host an online panel discussion about navigating university as a disabled student. Moderated by Kinesiology Professor Maureen Connolly, the event will take place Wednesday, May 29 at noon on Microsoft Teams.
Bringing their own unique intersectional lenses, a group of student panellists will share their experiences with university application processes, being on campus and more. The panellists include Applied Disability Studies master’s students Temilade Adesina, Ashley Giroux (BRLS ’23) and Thuy Linh Dang along with second-year Mathematics student Jazlyn Savoie.
The event is being hosted by Brock’s Human Rights and Equity Office in partnership with the Anti-Ableism and Mental Health Committee — a working group of the President’s Advisory Committee on Human Rights, Equity and Decolonization — and the Brock-Niagara Centre of Excellence in Inclusive and Adaptive Physical Activity.
Brock students, faculty and staff as well as members of the Niagara community can register for free through Teams.
