GALLERY: Brock celebrates work-integrated learning partnerships

Brock University’s community partners provide students with valuable experience that gives them a competitive edge in the marketplace.

To highlight the achievements and contributions of those who make these experiential opportunities possible, Co-op, Career and Experiential Education (CCEE), in partnership with the University’s Faculties, hosted Brock’s annual Celebration and Recognition Event on Monday, April 15. Held at Pond Inlet, the event honoured students, employers and community partners.

“Celebrating the achievements of our partners in education is very important for us,” says Melissa Beamer, CCEE’s Manager of Student and Partner Engagement. “We could not run the successful programs we have without these individuals and organizations who are critical to our success in preparing students for the workforce.”

With nearly 200 guests in attendance, the event celebrated students who won this year’s excellence in co-op and experiential education awards as well as outstanding community partner and faculty award recipients, including:

  • Alumni Co-op Employer of the Year: Anthony Stranges (BBA ’18)
  • Co-op Employer of the Year Award: Hydro One (large employer category), Jones & O’Connell (small to medium enterprise category) and Niagara Health (non-profit category)
  • Experiential Education Partner of the Year: Ubisoft Toronto
  • Law Plus Partner of the Year: John Howard Society of Niagara
  • Med Plus Partner of the Year: Niagara Region Public Health
  • Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Community Partner of the Year: Hamilton Sports Group

Also recognized for their work helping to build the capacity for work-integrated learning opportunities for Brock students were more than 40 recipients of the Outstanding Co-op Supervisor of the Term Recognition Award, as well as Biological Sciences Professor Fiona Hunter, who received the Experiential Education Faculty Member of the Year.
