OPINION: Stefan Dolgert discusses links between ancient history and U.S.-Canada relations

Associate Professor of Political Science Stefan Dolgert wrote a piece recently published in the Calgary Herald about parallels between Canada-U.S. relations and the destruction of the ancient city-state of Plataea.

He writes:

Listening to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s speech last weekend, one word kept running through my head: Plataea. If you’re not familiar with Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BCE) you may not know about this ancient city-state.

Spoiler alert: it’s not a happy parallel between Canada and a place you probably haven’t heard of.
